As a Adult Beginner, what should I focus on first?

Answered by: Colin McAlpin (Head Pro)

Technique is primary but soon you’ll realize tennis is a great workout and strategy evolves as your game improves. The first 5 strokes to learn are forehand, backhand, serve, volley and overhead. Then you have the foundation to play. Your strategy will be simple but also effective. Get the ball in play over the net and inside the lines. As you learn to aim, move your opponent around. Rallies will become longer and more fun, which will leave you out of breath. That’s where fitness will come in. One of my clients nailed it, “Tennis doesn’t feel like fitness, it feels like fun.” Tennis improves cardio, flexibility, agility, mobility, strength, and mental health.
